Ray Wolf BioRay Wolf, colorful abstract painter

“When I was a child I always stayed outside the lines when I colored!”  This statement is typical of Ray Wolf, an arist who knew, even in grade school, that art would be his passion, and that he would do it his way.

Wolf’s career has had many facets, all leading to the evolution of his style into explosions of color that evoke a powerful response in his collectors. And yet, each one has something mundane in it, often hard to find. It may be as small as a postage stamp, or as large as a license plate, but always a touchstone to reality.

An only child, Wolf’s parents were wise enough to put no restraints on his talent. This let Ray explore the artistic world with no boundaries, and as the years have passed, he has moved from representational work to abstract. Wolf points out that, “painting abstractly lets the color itself tell me where it wants to live on the canvas. These paintings seem fresher and more vital, yet they still exhibit a kinship with my Native American heritage inherited through my mother.”

As a color specialist for Hallmark Cards, Ray lived many years in Kansas City, but recently changed his lifestyle to a simpler, gentler world here in New Mexico. This allowed him to explore new avenues of artistic expression as well as a new part of his life.

Pippin Meikle Fine Art is proud to represent Wolf and his dynamic abstract paintings.
